Hidenori Ishii is a Japanese painter and visual artist born in Yonezawa, Japan, in 1978. Based in New York, Ishii works across painting, prints, and installation, approaching the social and environmental landscape through personal narratives, art historical references, and socio-political subject matter. His work explores the transformation of environment, the tension between civilization and nature, and the ways human activity reshapes the spaces around us. In recent paintings, Ishii uses Kuricoat C-720, a neon-green synthetic resin sprayed at Fukushima Daiichi after the 2011 nuclear reactor meltdown to reduce the airborne spread of radiation. He received his BFA from George Mason University and his MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His solo exhibitions include Townsend, Erin Cluley Gallery, and C. Grimaldis Gallery.
