JUNE 27 - AUGUST 17, 2019

C. Grimaldis Gallery is pleased to present its 42nd annual summer exhibition, featuring modern and contemporary painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography.  Summer ‘19 showcases a selection of artists that preview the gallery’s upcoming programming and give space for reflection on current events.

This survey exhibition spans decades in an attempt to highlight the gallery’s artists of international acclaim, such as Abstract Expressionist Grace Hartigan (1922-2008) and Korean light artist Chul Hyun Ahn, while also forging new relationships with contemporary voices. Recent graduates of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Zachary Titford and Sarah Purnell, make their debut with powerful political and tension-charged works in sculpture and drawing respectively.  The sculptural works of Jae Ko and John Ruppert focus on material, process, and the force of gravity. And paintings by Beverly McIver and Hidenori Ishii focus on issues of identity, culture, and environment.

Summer ‘19 merges some of Baltimore’s most famous landscape painters, Eugene Leake (1911-2005) and Raoul Middleman, with that of the outsider Greek artist Giorgos Rigas (1921-2014).  The exhibition also draws focus to photography, including works by Ben Marcin, Marja Pirila, and Bernd Radtke, each one taking their own perspective on documentation of the domestic space. This exhibition emphasizes an appreciation for the breadth of knowledge and talent from a wide range of artists.

C. Grimaldis Gallery is proud to participate in the 2018 Artscape Gallery Network, celebrating the work of the Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize applicants and artists working throughout the region.
