Frank Dituri: To Photograph a Stranger

November 8, 2018 - January 12, 2019

Opening reception Thursday, November 8 6-8pm

A tree photographed becomes poetry, a human face photographed becomes poetry, simply physical matter is already poetry, a vision full of mystery.

— Pier Paolo Pasolini

How do I photograph someone I do not know?
Your films, sensuality, poems, politics, religion          all important
but I needed something more

There in winter          in the northeast
along the canals and fields
I touched the earth
It reminded me of my father’s beloved garden
It was sacred, almost religious
his own private chapel
a small plot of land in front of our house
enclosed with a silver link fence
that he repainted every spring
and in the center, like an altar on a cement pedestal
there was a fountain
a goddess pouring water from a Roman vase
